Client/Employer: KENHA

Consultant: Abdul Mulick and Associates Ltd

Main Contractor: Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO)

Testing Agency: Asteriks Engineering Ltd

The contract was the construction of an A class road from Lodwar to Lokitaung Nadapal Junction. In the construction there were several bridges . Two bridge had deep foundations in in situ concrete bore piles, 800mm diameter piles ranging from 15m to 25m n length.

Four pile load tests were carried out by the static load compression test using the kentledge beam as the anchor system. The anchor system comprising the Kentledge system was settup using 4 steel beams 1200mm x 400mm x 10m long fabricated steel beams. The dead weight was provided by placing steel reinforcement bars of equivalent weight to the test load while taking into account the weights of the test beam and platform beams.

The testing was done on  for bridges at Km 149+667  and kM156+352. Two tests each were carried out both bridge sites.

The test piles at bridge Km 149+667 were 800mm diameter in situ bored concrete pile 20.m long. The working load for the pile is 2200kN and test load was 150% of working load. Test was carried out on one Abutment pile and one pier pile.

The test piles at bridge Km 156+352 were 800mm diameter in situ bored concrete pile 20.m long. The working load for the pile is 2200kN and test load was 150% of working load. Test was carried out on one Abutment pile and one pier pile.

The tests were carried out during the month of August 2020

The Pile Load testing was carried out in accordance with ASTM D1143 – 08.
